Traditionally Indians haven’t been the most receptive to selling stuff online, something that I’ve noticed by perusing classifieds online and in print. If you are currently looking for India classifieds then you are probably looking them up online because strangely enough, “it’s more accessible!” for the average literate  urban Indian. The advent of the internet (in Indian homes) and the introduction of the era of free personal classifieds have actually changed things slowly but surely.

As country looking to incorporate the internet more and more into the modern lifestyle, users have been treated to horrible user interfaces and painful webdesign. OLX is an Argentinian web company founded in 2006 and has been a growing force in the online classifieds business. I found the OLX India portal to be a welcome relief! It has been a breeze to use; its probably got something to do with the experience gained by doing business in about 96 countries. Creating a profile and posting your advertisement is simple and effortless which really is the way to go to rake in new users. Sections for most if not all cities in India is also something that I found worth appreciating, lets face it we prefer doing business close to home and actually speak to the seller or buyer. The localization the website offers is another feature worth mentioning, I found 5 languages that a user can choose from to use the site and my guess is that’s just the start!

I am photography nut and lately was looking forward to trying out old film cameras! Well, what better way than look for other interested fellow photo nuts looking to sell their old cameras or just good people looking forward to getting rid of any “relics” lying around. Granted there aren’t many of them around, but its just a matter of time! OLX has also smaller City listings which is nifty, because not everybody lives in the metros (if you know what I’m saying). The best part about listings that are city specific is the chance of meeting like minded folks, if you are into a niche hobby or interest (that really goes with OLXs tagline “Where Buyers Meet Sellers”.

I think OLX has to increase its user base so it can become more useful, than it is now! Like a social network, which actually is fun if there are more friends around, OLX can become much better with more users utilizing the site. Of course OLX has started running ad campaigns in the mainstream media to pull in more heads.The TV ad campaign for OLX has some smart ads targeting the urban population and am sure it’s the way to go. So if you are looking to post or search for items for sale then OLX is the place to be.
