Journey to Audiophilia

If you’re looking to pick up some tips on audiophile perspectives then I recommend watching the embedded video. Now, if you are a total noob in Audiophile land then you might not be able to understand a few topics discussed, incase you are already know what a DAC does or listen to music in lossless audio (which I think most should!) – dive right in! Chris Connaker of Computer Audiophile talks about a few basic concepts that the average Audiophile should find interesting!

Karthik’s “Music I Like”

I’m a fusion lover and am constantly on the lookout for interesting content. The problem with fusion is that there is so much chaff out there, its really difficult to pickup the good ones. I will not get into my reasons for describing certain fusion albums as chaff, instead let me point you to something that I recently came across and liked (thanks to Milliblog).

MUSIC I LIKE – This album is a collection of some of the most popular kritis (traditional Carnatic classical compositions) sung by one of the leading playback singers of South India — Karthik.

A complete fusion project, this album features these famous Carnatic Kritis rendered in its traditional form, fused with western musical elements. With the sound of the Drums, Guitars, Keyboards merging with that of the Violin, Flute, Mridangam and other traditional instruments, “Music I Like” is a unique fusion album. The music of the album is arranged by well-known music director Sai Madhukar.

Binaural Recording – Head-fi TV

I learn’t about Binaural recordings not long back and this episode of Head-Fi TV really helped. The binaural sample tracks are worth a listen, if you are new to the world of binaural recording then you should definitely give them a shot. My first experience with binaural tracks were with the Pearl Jam album “Binaural” (yeah! ..that’s the title), that album had atleast a couple of tracks recorded binaurally and its worth a listen. The tracks on “Explorations in Space and Time” are definitely worth listening if you’re a Jazz fan or if you’re just curious what the deal is with binaural recording. If you’ve been a long time headphone listener then you will notice the change in the soundstage and presentation, everybody else are not going to be impressed!

TIP:  Make sure to watch this video with headphones on.  You’ll understand why a few minutes in.

Got a tweet with more interesting binaural goodness, urge you to check out the link in the tweet for some geek giggles ;-)

History of Rock’nRoll – Web Music Series

The Incompleat History of Rock’nRoll is a web music series that I discovered recently and strongly believe that any music fan should be looking forward to. If you’ve seen my LastFM profile, I listen mostly to contemporary artists (say within the past 10 to 20 years) – though I love to mix them up with some of the “old timers”. Its an experience that will overload your aural senses by stretching the spectrum of musical styles. Somewhere along that journey I’ve moved steadily more into jazz and been getting to the roots of rock’n roll. While recently listening to the iTunes Celebrity Playlist podcast (warning may launch your iTunes application!) of U2′s Edge I discovered a wealth of New Orleans musicians whom I’ve never heard of, yet they were some of the pioneers of modern rock’n roll – which led me to the Incompleat History of Rock’n Roll series. Its short, sweet and takes someone like me..waaay back into the music scene! highly recommend it.

This trailer should be sufficient to hook any music fan, don’t forget to subscribe to the Youtube channel, episodes are updated at irregular intervals!
